Digital Papers
Today, the variety of substrates available for digital printing has increased significantly from a few years ago due to the growing popularity of digital printing and the improved level of technology available. Digital presses are now able to accept a greater variety of stocks, such as card stock, textured papers and other substrates including polyester materials, vinyl, transparencies, self-adhesive label stock, textiles and foil.
Digital papers require reduced moisture content to build up less static than conventional offset papers. Numerous digital printing processes do not function correctly if the paper has an electric charge. Papermakers are altering their traditional offset papers to work on specific digital presses with a range of colors and weights. The proper combination of paper and printer choice will produce the highest quality results. If a printer does not stock a paper, they can be asked about script charges or how much it will cost to calibrate a paper to their machine. Before specifying paper, remember to ask a printer about available press sizes.
